Planning a Proposal in Glacier Park: Everything You Need to Know

There’s just something about a proposal in Glacier Park that feels straight out of a dream. Between the wildflower fields, crystal-clear lakes, and those jaw-dropping mountain backdrops, it’s literally one of the most romantic places you could ever ask someone to marry you! But here’s the thing: pulling it off takes a little bit of planning (and the right photographer by your side to make it happen smoothly). I’ve been lucky enough to capture so many of these moments, and I’m spilling all my best tips so your Glacier Park proposal can be just as magical as you’re imagining!

Step One: Find the Right Photographer!

This is a biggie, y’all! A proposal in Glacier Park isn’t like popping the question in your backyard, it’s an adventure. You’ll want a photographer whose style makes your heart skip a beat, but also someone who knows the park like the back of their hand. Glacier is massive, and having a go-with-the-flow photographer who’s down to hike, scout the best spots, or even play “pretend tourist” (yes, I’ve sat in a lawn chair eating a sandwich to blend in) makes all the difference. Basically, you need someone who can capture the magic without blowing your cover.

Step Two: Choose Your Dream Location

Glacier Park is overflowing with options. Do you picture yourselves by a lake with the mountains reflecting off the water? Maybe standing in a field of wildflowers? Or hiking up for those big, sweeping “on top of the world” views? There are waterfalls, rivers, meadows, honestly, it’s like nature’s version of a choose-your-own-adventure book. The best part? You don’t have to have it all figured out on your own! Your photographer (hi, that’s me!) can help you narrow it down to the perfect spot that feels the most like you two.

Step Three: Map Out the Moment

Once you know the vibe, think about how you want to pop the question. Do you want to drop to one knee mid-hike? Pull over on Going-to-the-Sun Road and let the mountains be your witness? Or dress up for dinner and “accidentally” take a stroll by the lake before your reservation? Having a loose plan makes the whole thing feel effortless when it actually happens. And trust me, a little bit of sneaky coordination with your photographer goes a long way. (We’re pros at being incognito, hiding at trailheads, following at a distance, and waiting for the perfect moment.)

Step Four: Plan With Your Photographer

This is where the magic really comes together. Share what you’ll be wearing, maybe even send a quick selfie so your photographer can spot you easily. Come up with a hand signal or code word so they know it’s about to go down. I always let my couples know what I’ll be wearing too, that way no one’s looking for a random stranger in the crowd! The goal is to keep it stress-free and seamless, so all you have to do is focus on that “yes.”

Step Five: Cover the Logistics (and Have a Backup Plan)

Glacier National Park isn’t exactly a roll-up-whenever kind of place. You’ll need to make sure you have your park passes, know the entry times, and have all your details sorted before you go. And because, well, life happens, always have a backup plan. Weather can change fast, crowds can shift, and sometimes the best moments happen when you roll with it. That’s why working with someone who knows the park is so important. We can pivot quickly and still make it feel like the dream you envisioned!

Step Six: Pop the Question and Celebrate!

This is the fun part, take a deep breath, drop down on one knee, and soak it all in. Afterwards, let’s pop some champagne, take those “just engaged!” photos, and give you a moment to just exist in that post-proposal glow. Honestly, those in-between moments, laughing, hugging, tearing up together end up being some of the most magical photos of all!
